HIV Policy and Research
The Office of AIDS Research (OAR) guides the National Institutes of Health (NIH) HIV/AIDS research investment. The OAR establishes HIV/AIDS research priorities and develops the NIH Strategic Plan for HIV and HIV-Related Research, which serves as a roadmap for NIH HIV/AIDS research. The OAR also ensures that HIV/AIDS research funds are allocated across NIH Institutes, Centers, and Offices based on the Plan.
The OAR conducts an annual review of the NIH HIV/AIDS research portfolio to ensure that research funds are allocated effectively and efficiently, based on the current research opportunities.
