The Office of AIDS Research is a Program Office in the National Institutes of Health Office of the Director. The National Institutes of Health is an agency of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS).
OAR: Coordinator of the NIH HIV/AIDS Research Program
The Office of AIDS Research (OAR) is part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of the Director (OD). OAR is one of thirteen offices in the OD’s Division of Program Coordination, Planning, and Strategic Initiatives (DPCPSI). OAR oversees the NIH global fight against HIV and AIDS: coordinating and managing all NIH HIV/AIDS research conducted by the NIH Institutes, Centers, and Offices (ICOs), including the scientific, budgetary, legislative, and policy components. NIH Office of AIDS Research (OAR)
The OD is the central office at NIH and is responsible for setting policy, and for planning, managing, and coordinating the programs and activities of all the NIH components. NIH has 27 Institutes and Centers (ICs). The OD has 13 program offices, in its Division of Program Coordination, Planning, and Strategic Initiatives (DPCPSI), which includes the Office of AIDS Research. U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Agencies (HHS)
HHS has 11 operating divisions, including eight agencies in the U.S. Public Health Service and three human services agencies. The divisions administer a wide variety of health and human services and conduct life-saving research for the nation, to protect and serve all Americans. The National Institutes of Health is one of the HHS agencies. Some of the other HHS agencies are the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Food and Drug Administration, the Indian Health Service, and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
