World AIDS Day 2018

On November 30, 2018, people from across NIH and the community gathered at the NIH Lister Hill Auditorium on the NIH campus in Bethesda for the OAR-sponsored World AIDS Day symposium More Than Three Decades: Inspiring HIV Discoveries Through Basic Science Research. Speakers representing various scientific disciplines discussed the role of basic science research in yielding effective treatment and prevention tools, and potentially a cure, in the ongoing fight against HIV.

Maureen Goodenow, Ph.D., NIH Associate Director for AIDS Research and Director of OAR, shared opening and closing remarks. The program was moderated by Carl W. Dieffenbach, Ph.D., Director, Division of AIDS, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
