Lis Caler, Ph.D.
Lis Caler, Ph.D., joined the NIH Office of AIDS Research (OAR) in September 2019 and is the Science Team Lead Senior Scientific Advisor. Currently, Dr. Caler leads the NIH OAR Science Group that manages the vast NIH HIV/AIDS research portfolio and several Signature and Spotlight Programs, including HIV and Aging, HIV and Women, Early Career Investigators in HIV, and Technologies to Advance HIV research programs. Before joining OAR, Dr. Caler served as a Program Director in the NIH National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) Division of Lung Diseases where she led the Lung Response to Pulmonary Infections, Microbiome, HIV/AIDS, and Tuberculosis (TB) portfolio. There she focused on cellular and molecular lung responses to HIV, TB, and non-TB mycobacterial infection, as well as other viral, bacterial, and fungal pathogens that cause pneumonia. Dr. Caler received her B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Biotechnology from the University of Buenos Aires, and her M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Microbial Pathogenesis from Yale University School of Public Health in a joint degree with the Yale School of Medicine Department of Microbial Pathogenesis. Dr. Caler is a devoted advocate for diversity, inclusion, and supporting the next generation of HIV investigators, and an avid promoter of Data Sharing and accessibility.
